USA. Kaws is a native of Jersey City, NJ and continues to work in Brooklyn, NYC. He was inspired by street, skateboard and hip-hop culture. He gained recognition and street credibility by painting over advertising found on bus-stop billboards as well as other mediums. He was painting his now iconic X’s over the eyes and gloves, often wrapping models in his bendy creatures. He has taken popular cultural icons like Mickey Mouse to the Michelin Man and made them his own, evoking emotion through simple postures. Working in medium such as paper, wood, metals and plastics he has created  both a unique style and artistic imagery immediately recognizable as a Kaws piece. His paint lines are masterfully clean and precise, very evident in his prints and even his toy sculptures which are now highly coveted and collectible. He has partnered with numerous brands and his work is in the permanent collections of many museums.
